Pune, March 15 (IANS). Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the newly constructed Pune Metro Bhawan (Metro Bhawan) in Pune on Sunday. Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar was also specially present in this important function. Senior officials of Pune Metro Project, public representatives and other dignitaries were present in the program.
This Metro Bhawan will become a major center for the smooth operation of Pune Metro. Chief Minister Fadnavis said during the inauguration that now Pune Metro has got its permanent ‘home’. Referring to MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar, he jokingly said, “When Hardikar was saying that we are enjoying coming home, I remembered the old song – ‘Do Deewane Ek Shehar Mein…’. Now Hardikar has got a home.” He heartily congratulated the Metro team.
The Chief Minister further said that there were many challenges and delays in the beginning of the Pune Metro project, but once the work started, it became one of the fastest completed metro projects in the country. He laid special emphasis on multimodal stations, design, construction quality, passenger amenities and future connectivity.
Fadnavis said that the modern metro system is based on automatic signaling, command and control, disaster planning, CCTV mapping and security systems. In such a situation, it is very important to have a well-equipped metro building, which Pune has got today.
This inauguration is a big step towards strengthening Pune’s public transport system. To reduce the increasing traffic problem in the city, the metro is expanding rapidly. Work is going on on important corridors like Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar, the first phase of which is expected to be inaugurated soon. The presence of Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar made the program more important, as she is active on issues related to the development of Pune.
Pune Metro is now connecting different parts of the city and providing safe, fast and environment-friendly transportation options to the passengers. This building will bring new efficiency in the operation, maintenance and control of the metro. The Chief Minister praised all the concerned officers and team for the success of the project.
