West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is scheduled to meet Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Monday over concerns related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in the state, said she and her party will “continue to fight”.

He also alleged mistreatment of the people of Bengal in the national capital Delhi and criticized the conduct of officials, saying his party would strongly raise these issues and seek answers from the concerned institutions.

Addressing a press conference in the national capital today, Banerjee said, “I am going to Banga Bhawan, to see my people and to see the atrocities of the Delhi Police. When the Home Minister comes to Bengal, we roll out his red carpet. But when we come to Delhi, you roll out our black carpet. Please stop yourself from the atrocities and torture being done to the people of Bengal who have lost their lives.”

She said, “If no one in this country will fight, I will fight, our party will fight. There is a meeting tomorrow at 3 pm, and the media has been called for a press conference at Banga Bhawan. The people of Delhi do not know what is happening in Bengal. I have just got the information, and I have not even changed my clothes.”

There was heavy deployment of Delhi Police outside two Banga Bhavans (West Bengal state guest houses) located at Halley Road and Chanakyapuri.

A 15-member Trinamool Congress delegation, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, will meet Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar today.

The delegation will meet the Chief Election Commissioner regarding the “biased, arbitrary, discriminatory and politically motivated” conduct of the Special Intensive Review (SIR) in Bengal.

“Today, under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee, a 15-member delegation will meet the Chief Election Commissioner to formally register our serious concerns over the partisan, arbitrary, discriminatory and politically motivated conduct of the SIR in Bengal,” a post on TMC’s official account X shared.

“The delegation will present our clear demands and demand immediate corrective action, especially as no response has been given so far to our repeated objections to the Election Commission,” the post read.

Currently, the nationwide electoral roll (SIR) is being conducted in 12 states and union territories, with the final electoral list to be published on February 7.

These states and union territories are: Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
