Sanand, February 28 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Semiconductor Assembly, Test and Packaging (ATMP) facility of American company Micron Technology in Sanand, Gujarat. This is a historic milestone in India’s semiconductor history, which PM Modi described as an “important step in India’s journey towards technology leadership”.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, PM Modi said, “This facility of Micron and today’s program is also a proof of the strong cooperation and partnership between India and America. Especially in the field of technology like AI and chip, the partnership between India and America is very important. Today the whole world wants to secure the supply chain of these two technologies related to the better future of humanity. The two largest democracies of the world, India and America are continuously making efforts for this. During the AI Summit, India and America The Pax-Silica agreement is another effort in this direction. Our joint efforts will also make the global supply chain of the critical mineral more secure and reliable.”
Referring to the industrial revolution of the 20th century, PM Modi said, “The world has seen the era of industrial revolution till the 20th century. At that time, the countries which were ahead in factory, machine and mass production, progressed rapidly. This century is the century of AI revolution. Semiconductor is the big bridge of this change. Small chip is the industrial revolution and AI. It’s the medium that connects revolutions. If the regulator of the last century was oil, the regulator of this century is going to be the microchip.”
Throwing light on India’s semiconductor policy, he said, “With this in mind, India decided to move forward rapidly in the semiconductor sector. When the world was struggling with the havoc of Covid, India had announced the Semiconductor Mission. Till now, a total of 10 projects have been approved under the Semicon India Programme. Apart from Micron, three other projects are also going to start production very soon. The semiconductor ecosystem we are building will Not limited to any one region, but pan-India.”
PM Modi further said, “Apart from Sanand, work is also going on on a large scale in Dholera. A few days ago, work on a new facility also started in Noida, UP. Work on semiconductor units has also started in Assam, Odisha and Punjab. Today, India has only one message for investors all over the world – ‘India is ready, India is revival and India is delivered’.”
