Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hit out at opposition parties opposing the Delimitation Bills, saying some people feel they have “political interest” in these bills and if they oppose these laws, “naturally I will get political benefits”.

Participating in the debate on the Constitution Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha for early implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act, PM Modi said that if the bills are passed then everyone will get the credit for it and he is ready for advertisements thanking everyone tomorrow, and is also ready to get everyone’s photographs printed.

He said that if the bills are passed unanimously, no one will get any political benefit.

He said, “Some people here believe that Modi has political interest in this. If they oppose it, then naturally I will get political benefit, but if they support, then no one will get any political benefit. We do not want credit.”

He further said, “As soon as it is passed, I am ready to run an advertisement tomorrow itself thanking everyone, ready to get everyone’s photographs printed. You take the credit for it… Whatever photograph you want to get printed, I am ready to get it printed at government expense.”

The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Union Territory Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the Delimitation Bill, 2026 were introduced in the Lok Sabha this morning and taken up for consideration and passing.

Prime Minister Modi advocated implementation of the Women’s Reservation Bill from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and said that MPs should not miss this important opportunity.

He said that there are some important moments in the life of a country and the mentality and leadership ability of the society can capitalize on that moment and turn it into an asset for the nation.

He said, “The discussion on this important Bill began this morning. Many members have raised various issues, and we will provide detailed and accurate information to the House on those matters. So I do not want to go into those specifics. There are certain important moments in the life of a country. At such times, the mindset of the society and the ability of leadership capitalize on that moment and turn it into an asset for the nation, thereby creating a strong legacy. In the history of India’s parliamentary democracy, these are such moments.”

He further said, “The need was that when this idea was first conceived 25-30 years ago and its need was felt, then we should have implemented it, and today we have brought it to a mature stage. It is also improved from time to time as per the need, and this is the beauty of democracy. Our democracy is the mother of democracy. Our democracy has been on the journey of development for thousands of years, and all of us in this House have the opportunity to add a new dimension to this development journey.” Auspicious opportunity has been received.”

He urged the MPs to give a new direction to the country by passing the bills pending in the Lok Sabha.

He said, “I had said in the very beginning that we are all fortunate that we have got the opportunity to participate in this important, nation-building process involving half of the country’s population… We parliamentarians should not let this important opportunity slip away. We Indians will together give a new direction to the country. We will make meaningful efforts to bring sensitivity in our governance system. This will not only shape the country’s politics, but will also determine the direction and condition of the country.”

The Prime Minister said that during the discussion, many members raised different concerns and said that these bills are aimed at strengthening women’s participation in governance and shaping a new political culture.

He said, “We are giving a new direction to the country. We are trying to create a positive impact. This will give a new direction in the political arena. I am happy that I am part of the moment which is involving half the population in policy-making.”

She further said, “Women have not forgotten those who raised their voice against their rights.”

He said, “The vision of a developed India does not mean only railways, roads or infrastructure. Developed India means everyone’s support, everyone’s development.”

Opposition parties have said that they are in favor of early implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act, but are strongly opposing the Delimitation Bill.
