Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his decision to repeal the MGNREGA Act, accusing him of giving priority to bureaucrats over the poor.
Speaking to the media on the issue of repeal of MGNREGA, Rahul Gandhi accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “centralizing power, handing it over to the bureaucracy and leaving poor citizens to die of hunger”.
He alleged, “The purpose of MGNREGA was to hand over economic responsibility to unemployed rural citizens and provide minimum wages. Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not want this; he wants to centralize power and hand it over to the bureaucracy and leave poor citizens to die of hunger. With the amendment in the Act, the protection of the poor has been removed. That is why Congress is running a Save MGNREGA campaign across the country… The Prime Minister wants the entire country’s economy to be in the hands of Ambani and Adani. Go away while we are trying to help the poor.”
Rahul Gandhi also condemned the removal of Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the amended VB-G Ram-Ji Act.
