A big update has come out regarding the security of Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab Raghav Chadha. According to reports quoting sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the ministry has provided ‘Z’ category security cover to Raghav Chadha. They will get this security cover in both Delhi and Punjab. According to sources, Raghav Chaddha’s security will now be done by paramilitary forces. This decision has been taken on the basis of the ‘threat perception’ report submitted by the Intelligence Bureau. It is noteworthy that the Punjab Government had earlier withdrawn the security cover of Raghav Chadha, after which the Central Government decided to provide him security.
What is ‘Z’ category security?
Under ‘Z’ category security, a total of 33 security personnel are deployed. This category provides protection to VIPs from the armed forces. Ten armed ‘static guards’ are deployed at his residence. Additionally, six ‘Personal Security Officers’ (PSOs) are on duty 24 hours a day. In addition, 12 commandos are deployed as armed escort in three shifts; Two ‘watchers’ are deployed according to shifts, and three trained drivers are also available at all times. In fact, the rift between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Raghav Chadha seems to be deepening. The Punjab government had earlier withdrawn the ‘Z+’ category security cover given to Raghav Chadha. According to sources, this decision was taken due to the growing rift between Aam Aadmi Party and Raghav Chadha.
MP Ashok Mittal becomes deputy leader
It is worth noting that on April 2, in a major reshuffle, the Aam Aadmi Party had removed Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha from the post of deputy leader. In his place, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal—Chancellor of Lovely Professional University and the party’s MP—was appointed as the party’s new deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha.
Following this action by the Aam Aadmi Party—and the continued exchange of statements between AAP leaders on social media—Raghav Chadha released a video in which he responded to all the allegations made against him and rejected them outright. Through this video, Raghav Chadha targeted his own party. In response, Aam Aadmi Party leaders also retaliated against their own MP. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had also said at that time that Raghav Chadha had become a “victim of compromise”.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said the party’s parliamentary board leaders change from time to time, and it is a normal process. Bhagwant Mann said that there are many important issues on which the party expects its MPs to walkout from the House or raise their voice. He further said that when an MP fails to do so, it is considered a violation of the party whip.
Action is taken later on such violations of the whip. Be it the issue of wrongful deletion of voters’ names in West Bengal or the arrest of Aam Aadmi Party workers in Gujarat, instead of raising these matters, Raghav Chadha chose to raise issues like rising prices of samosas in the Parliament canteen and delay in pizza delivery. “I believe a settlement has been reached with them,” Mann said.
