The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi over his ‘dance’ comment against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and termed the statement as indecent.

The complaint states that Rahul Gandhi made highly derogatory, vulgar and personal remarks against Prime Minister Modi during his election rallies held in Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga on October 29.

“This is to register a serious complaint against Shri Rahul Gandhi, Member of Parliament and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, for making highly derogatory, indecent and personal remarks against the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi during the rally held at Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga, Bihar on 29 October 2025,” the complaint said.

The complaint said that during his public address, Mr Rahul Gandhi said, “Before the elections, if you ask Modi, he will dance to win votes.”

The BJP said the Congress MP’s statement is not only derogatory towards the Prime Minister’s Office, but also crosses all limits of decency and democratic discourse. “Such comments are personal, derisive and insulting to the dignity of the highest constitutional office of the Republic of India,” the BJP said.

It said, “The above statement made by Shri Rahul Gandhi is a direct attack on the personal character and dignity of the Honorable Prime Minister and has no connection with public policy or performance. It amounts to personal slander and violates the spirit and letter of the Model Code of Conduct.”

The party demanded that the Election Commission take immediate and exemplary action against Rahul Gandhi for “violating the model code of conduct, corrupt practices under Section 123(4) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and bringing down the dignity of the office of the Prime Minister through indecent and inappropriate comments”.

It asked the Election Commission to issue a show cause notice to the Congress MP and direct him to tender an unconditional public apology.

The BJP demanded, “And in order to maintain the sanctity of democratic and electoral etiquette, he be barred from campaigning for a certain period. Such action will act as a deterrent against the growing trend of personal condemnation in electoral politics and reaffirm the commitment of the Election Commission to free, fair and honorable elections in India.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi made a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and alleged that he can do anything for votes. Addressing an election rally in Muzaffarpur on Wednesday, Gandhi reiterated his “vote theft” allegations and accused Prime Minister Modi of trying to steal votes in the Bihar elections.

The Congress leader said, “He (PM Modi) only wants your votes. If you ask him to do drama for votes, he will do it. You can make him do anything. If you ask Narendra Modi to dance, he will dance.”
