Mumbai, February 18 (IANS). Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray met Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde at his official residence ‘Nandanvan’ in Mumbai on Wednesday. During this, both the leaders discussed the conservation of Mumbai’s heritage architecture and historical buildings.
During this, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Dr. Shrikant Shinde talked to Raj Thackeray. Raj Thackeray showed keen interest in the rare and old photographs of Mumbai’s heritage buildings displayed at Shinde’s residence. He shared memories and anecdotes related to several historical sites depicted in the photographs and appreciated the efforts to preserve the architectural heritage of the city.
According to a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Minister’s office, heritage photography and architectural conservation of Mumbai were discussed in detail during the meeting.
The deputy chief minister briefed about policies designed to preserve and encourage heritage-style structures in the city, the statement said.
‘Nandanvan’, the official residence of Deputy Chief Minister Shinde, is itself considered a property of historical and architectural importance. Raj Thackeray observed the rare and old photographs displayed in the complex and discussed their historical importance.
During the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Shinde said that during his tenure as Chief Minister, he had taken policy steps to promote heritage style construction and preserve the traditional architectural identity of the city.
Raj Thackeray also inspected the bungalow complex and surrounding areas, which have been developed in the same architectural style to maintain the heritage identity of the property.
Raj Thackeray appreciated the preservation of historical elements at the residence and maintaining Mumbai’s architectural heritage.
This meeting is also considered important because it was the first meeting between Deputy Chief Minister Shinde and Raj Thackeray after political differences in the recent Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.
The Shinde faction, which contested the municipal elections in alliance with the BJP, got 29 seats, while the Raj Thackeray-led MNS, contesting in alliance with the Shiv Sena (UBT), won six seats.
