Kolkata, May 20 (IANS). Amid the ongoing controversy over an objectionable post of 2015, Trinamool Congress MP Sayoni Ghosh on Wednesday clarified that he had already publicly apologized in this matter and he had no intention of hurting anyone’s religious sentiments.
Speaking to IANS, Sayoni Ghosh said that she had not posted this herself. He claimed that his social media account was hacked at that time.
Sayoni Ghosh said, “I have always maintained that I had not made that post. When this matter came to light again in 2021, I had also publicly apologized. No one wants to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments. I am a Hindu myself.”
She said that in the year 2015, she was only 22 years old and at that time the social media platform ‘X’ was new to her. Sayoni Ghosh clarified that she had neither created that cartoon nor posted it.
Sayoni Ghosh said, “If anyone should be investigated, it should be the person who made that cartoon. When this matter came to my notice in 2021, I immediately got that post removed and also publicly apologized.”
Actually, the controversy started when he was criticized a lot for an old post. There was huge resentment regarding this and complaints were also lodged with the police against Sayoni Ghosh. After this he issued a statement saying that he had not made this post.
However, this controversy continued to haunt him and he had to face political and public criticism. Sayoni Ghosh alleged that now this old controversy is being used to intimidate and suppress her politically.
He claimed that he was being openly given death threats by BJP leaders and workers. She has always been raising her voice against the government inside and outside the Parliament and perhaps that is why she is being targeted. In my limited political experience I feel that BJP does not like the voice of opposition. They do not like the existence of opposition in democracy.
He said, “People are openly saying that whoever beheads Sayoni Ghosh will be given a reward of Rs 1 crore. BJP leaders and workers are saying such things publicly. On the other hand, the same people talk about women’s reservation and women’s empowerment. Can these two things go together? Absolutely not.”
He said that BJP does not like to raise the voice of women, whereas the culture of Bengal has always been for women to be strong and vocal.
