New Delhi, April 17 (IANS). Congress MPs belonging to South India attacked the Central Government regarding the notification and delimitation issued regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill. However, many MPs have talked about voting in support of the women’s bill. On the Women’s Reservation Bill, Congress MP Mallu Ravi said, “Last night the BJP government made some new plans. Voting is on this bill today at 4 o’clock. Let’s see whether they have separated the Women’s Reservation Bill and the Delimitation Bill or not. We will not vote in favor of this bill, we will oppose it. However, we will support the Women’s Reservation Bill, because it is our bill.”
Congress MP Karti Chidambaram said, “First of all, when elections are due in two big states next week, why was the session called? What was the hurry? A matter which was passed in 2023 is suddenly being notified during the session. Nothing is clear and nothing is transparent. Everything seems to be a sham and vague. Moreover, what the government says is not reflected in the fine print. I liken it to a I will not talk to an insurance seller who first says that he is selling an insurance policy and then says that it is linked to monthly SIP investments. What is said while selling the policy is not reflected in the fine print.”
Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy said, “MP Tejasvi Surya had made some comments referring to the division of Telangana during the discussion on the Delimitation and Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha. Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, representing Telangana, also supported these comments during the discussion. Both of them should apologize to the people of Telangana.”
DMK MP T.R. on the bill “This has been going on for the last one week. In fact, it has been going on for the last one year also. My leader had raised this issue a year ago. It is still going on,” Balu said.
Congress MP Saptagiri Shankar Ulka said, “This is quite surprising. We thought it had already been notified, but now it seems that the bill passed in 2023 has not been notified yet. It seems that the notification was issued during the discussion on these three bills, which raises questions as to why this was done so late and what is actually happening.”
Congress MP from Telangana Kadiyam Kavya said, “During the discussion on Women’s Reservation 131st Amendment Bill and Delimitation Bill on Thursday, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya said that the partition of Telangana was like the India-Pakistan partition. We have demanded that he apologize and these comments of his should be removed from the parliamentary record. After years of struggle, the people of Telangana got their rightful statehood. Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy is also from Telangana; he spoke on this issue. Made our stand clear. As Telangana Congress MPs, we demand an apology from that MP and the BJP.”
CPI MP P. Santosh said, “Reservation for women is the need of the hour and we support it. It was passed unanimously by the Parliament of India and we all supported it. However, unfortunately the government is now trying to give it a political colour. It should not be linked to delimitation or other constitutional amendments. The point is that if the government is really serious about implementing the Women’s Reservation Bill, it should not be linked to any other condition or criteria. That is our stand.”
Congress MP K. C. Venugopal said, “Whenever an amendment to any law is introduced, it is the duty of the government to ensure that the notice of that amendment is issued. What amendment are you moving? Which law are you amending? The notice was issued on Thursday, and now they are saying and the media will also say that it is all just a ‘technical mistake’.”
