Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday made it clear that the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance will not form any kind of political alliance with Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) or Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray in future, and stressed that their alliance is fully capable of winning the elections on its own.
He asserted, “We will never need MVA or Uddhav in the future. We can never have an alliance with them. We are winning this election. Yes, it is true that they are not our enemies, we can have tea with them in the future, but there will be no alliance.”
Speaking to ANI, Fadnavis said Mahayuti entered the municipal corporation election campaign in a “serious and professional” manner from day one.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the BJP-led alliance fielded candidates from common backgrounds, including vegetable vendors, middle class persons, lawyers and even homeless people. According to him, the campaign received tremendous support from the public due to the work displayed before the voters.
Expressing confidence in the results, Fadnavis said Mahayuti will get a clear majority and will have mayors in 26 of the 29 municipal corporations contesting the elections.
He criticized Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Uddhav Thackeray’s efforts to deliberately fuel “Marathi versus non-Marathi” politics during the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, saying such divisive politics is completely contrary to the development-oriented approach of his government.
“Marathi is my language. Marathi language should be developed,” he told ANI.
Fadnavis also expressed his opinion on the Hindutva controversy, saying that Hindutva is the “soul” of the BJP and has never been used merely as an election slogan.
He criticized the rivals for distancing themselves from Hindutva for vote bank politics and said they will have to answer to the public for misleading the Marathi asmita (identity).
These comments come at a time when civic elections are going to be held in 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Voting for BMC Elections 2026 will take place on January 15 from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm in 227 wards and counting of votes will take place on January 16.
