Voting record broken in West Bengal elections, mood of voters remained like this since 1951

New Delhi, April 30 (IANS). The Election Commission has expressed happiness in releasing the figures after the end of the second phase of voting in the West Bengal Assembly elections. For the first time after independence, the highest turnout of 91.66 percent has been recorded in the second phase of assembly elections. This figure is till 7.45 pm. Till now this record was held by Tripura, where 91.82 percent voting took place in 2013.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar congratulated the people of West Bengal for the record voting. It was informed by the CEO office that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar along with Election Commissioners Dr. SS Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi kept a close watch on the voting through live webcasting, which was ensured at all the polling stations of West Bengal (Phase II).

If we look at the number of voters, 3 crore 60 lakh people voted in the first phase and 3 crore 21 lakh people voted in the second phase. Male voters cast 1 crore 84 lakh votes in the first phase and 1 crore 65 lakh votes in the second phase. Women cast 1 crore 76 lakh votes in the first phase and 1 crore 57 lakh votes in the second phase. The data of 5,343 polling stations in West Bengal has not been updated yet. Therefore the voting percentage may increase.

Voting for the second phase of Bengal Assembly began at 7:00 am on Wednesday. Till 7.45 pm, 91.66 percent voting took place. Male 91.07 percent, female 92.8 percent and third gender voters 91.28 percent voted. However, this figure may change. At the same time, 93.19 percent voting took place in the first phase. The combined voting percentage of both the phases was 92.47 percent. Earlier, the highest turnout in West Bengal was 84.72 percent in the Assembly elections 2011.

If we talk about past years, the voting percentage was 43.12 percent in 1951 assembly elections, 40.49 percent in 1951 Lok Sabha elections, 47.64 percent in 1957 assembly elections, 47.67 percent in 1957 Lok Sabha elections, 55.55 percent in 1962 assembly elections, 55.75 percent in 1962 Lok Sabha elections.

Apart from this, 66.10 in 1967 assembly election and 66.03 in Lok Sabha election, 66.51 in 1969 assembly election, 62.03 in 1971 assembly election, 61.93 in 1971 assembly election, 60.82 in 1972 assembly election, 56.15 in 1977 assembly election, 60.24 in 1977 Lok Sabha election, In the 1980 Lok Sabha elections, 70.62 percent voting was recorded and in the 1982 Assembly elections, 76.96 percent voting was recorded.

At the same time, the voting percentage was 78.61 in the 1984 Lok Sabha elections, 75.66 in the 1987 Assembly elections, 79.67 in the 1989 Lok Sabha elections, 76.80 in the 1991 Assembly elections and 76.73 in the Lok Sabha elections, 82.94 in the 1996 Assembly elections and 82.66 percent in the Lok Sabha elections.

Along with this, 79.27 in 1998 Lok Sabha election, 75.05 in 1999 Lok Sabha election, 75.29 in 2001 Assembly election, 78.04 in 2004 Lok Sabha election, 81.58 in 2006 Assembly election, 81.42 in 2009 Lok Sabha election, 84.72 in 2011 Assembly election, 2014 Lok Sabha election Voting was 82.22, 83.02 in 2016 Assembly, 81.76 in 2019 Lok Sabha, 82.30 in 2021 Assembly and 79.55 percent in 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
