The Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena alliance has further strengthened its lead in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, as early trends show that the BJP has emerged as the largest party with a lead on 98 seats.
The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is leading on 128 seats, while the Shiv Sena is leading on 30 seats.
On the other hand, the momentum of the Shiv Sena (UBT)-MNS-NCP (SP) alliance has come to a standstill as it has a lead in only 68 wards. UBT is leading the alliance with 59 seats, while MNS is leading on only 9 seats, while NCP SP has not been able to gain lead on any seat.
Similarly, Ajit Pawar-led NCP has also not been able to win seats in any of the 227 wards of Mumbai and has got only zero seats.
Congress has gained lead on 14 seats, however, the party’s ally in the local elections, Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, has not yet managed to open its account in BMC.
Meanwhile, the BJP has once again put in a strong performance in the other 28 municipal corporations, as reported trends show the party leading in Nagpur, Pune, Thane, Nashik and Shambhajinagar municipal corporations.
According to initial trends, BJP is leading in 113 out of 151 seats in Nagpur. Congress is ahead on only 30 seats.
In Pune, BJP is leading on 90 seats, while the NCP alliance is not getting much support as it is leading on only 20 seats. At the same time, in Pune, Congress-UBT alliance has got only 10 seats in total.
In Thane’s 131 wards, BJP remains the largest party by leading on 29 seats, while Ajit Pawar’s NCP got only 4 seats. The UBT-MNS-NCP (SP) alliance together won a total of 5 seats.

The Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections were held after a gap of eight years, an important civic process for Mumbai. The last BMC elections were held in 2017, while the tenure of the last elected mayor, Kishori Pednekar, ended in March 2022. With the elections over, Mumbai is going to get a new mayor after almost four years.
