Congress on Friday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, referring to US President Donald Trump’s recent comments regarding “mediation between India and Pakistan” and “India largely stopping buying oil from Russia” and asked what ‘Howdy Modi’ has to say in this regard.
Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh also said that Trump has claimed to mediate between India and Pakistan 59 times.
‘Howdy Modi’ was an event organized on 22 September 2019 in Houston, USA which was addressed by Prime Minister Modi and Trump.
Ramesh wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “This morning ‘Trumptracker’ has touched the figure of 59. Trump reiterated that he stopped Operation Vermilion within 24 hours using trade and tariffs, India has largely stopped buying oil from Russia and he talks to Prime Minister Modi and Modi wants him (Trump) to visit India, which could happen next year. He sarcastically asked, “What does ‘Howdy Modi’ have to say about all this?”
India started Operation Sindoor on May 7. Terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir was targeted under ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
The US President often claims that he stopped the military conflict between India and Pakistan in May this year by threatening to impose tariffs and not trade. India, however, has repeatedly clarified that the halt to military operations was agreed upon after being approached by Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) in May this year.
