The BJP government in Bengal has made many big announcements in its first budget. ‘Bharosa Scheme’ was launched in the budget presented on Monday, under which the unemployed will be given a monthly allowance of ₹3,000. Apart from this, recruitment of one lakh (100,000) employees was announced. In an important announcement for state government employees, the Finance Minister announced a 20% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) from October 2026. Along with increase in widow pension, construction of a second airport in Kolkata was also announced. The budget promises to continue all major social welfare schemes and fill one lakh government vacancies.

20% increase in DA
In the budget speech, West Bengal Finance Minister Dasgupta said the government will increase dearness allowance (DA) by 20%, taking the total to 38%. Apart from this, retired journalists will get a monthly pension of ₹5,000. People jailed for political reasons will be given ₹10,000 per month.

Recruitment for one lakh posts with 33% reservation for women
In the budget speech, Bengal Finance Minister Dasgupta promised to fill one lakh government posts, of which 33% would be reserved for women. The government will fill 20,000 police posts and 50,000 teacher posts. The monthly salary of Civil Police, Home Guard and Green Police personnel will be increased by ₹2,000. Wherever applicable, 10 per cent of the vacancies will be reserved for ‘Agniveer’. Relaxation of five years in the upper age limit for recruitment to government posts has already been given, and this rule will remain in force for the next two years. In the budget speech, the Finance Minister said that the government has inherited a debt of ₹8.15 lakh crore. Its objective is to restore the glorious identity of the state and create a ‘Developed Bengal’ in line with the vision of ‘Developed India’.

What is there for women in the first budget of BJP government in Bengal?

₹3,600 crore has been allocated for the women-centric scheme ‘Annapurna Bhandar’. Additionally, ₹550 crore is being allocated for free bus service for women; The Finance Minister announced that ‘Pink Cards’ will soon be introduced for this. In view of the work of ASHA workers, Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta announced to increase the monthly honorarium of ASHA workers to ₹ 5,000.

Unmarried women studying in colleges and government-aided colleges will be given a lump sum assistance of ₹50,000 to prevent them from dropping out.

Women police stations will be established at sub-divisional (Mahakuma) level in the near future.

Bengal Finance Minister Swapan Dasgupta announced to increase the Legislative Local Area Development Fund from ₹70 lakh to ₹1 crore annually. The Finance Minister said that creating a corruption-free administrative structure is the foundation of the government’s vision. We have to win back the trust of the people of the state. The state government has launched a new initiative named ‘Aapki Sarkar, Aapke Saath’ to reach out to the citizens. The Finance Minister also announced to allocate ₹50 crore to prevent soil erosion in Murshidabad. Apart from this, it has also been proposed to develop a deep sea port under PPP model in East Midnapore district.

*Holiday in the state on the birth anniversary of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee**
A big announcement was also made regarding liquor shops; Now in Bengal, liquor shops will be opened at a distance of at least one kilometer from temples, schools, colleges and hospitals. Additionally, July 6 – the birth anniversary of Syama Prasad Mukherjee – will be observed as a holiday in the state every year. A fund of ₹200 crore has been sanctioned to celebrate his 150th birth anniversary.
