Uttarakhand News: A two-day special session of the Fifth Assembly of Uttarakhand has been convened on 3rd and 4th November 2025 at the Assembly Building in Dehradun. Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh (Retd.) has issued this notification in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 174(1) of the Constitution of India, which has been made public by the Assembly Secretariat. This special session will start every day at 11:00 am.
Purpose and possible form of special session
This two-day special session is being organized to commemorate the silver jubilee (completion of 25 years) of the establishment of Uttarakhand state. The state government can organize a comprehensive discussion on the achievements, challenges and future plans of the state in this session. It is expected that during this period, major decisions can be taken on important legislative and policy issues that will give a new direction to the development of the state.
Since it is a special celebratory session, it is likely to be positive and focused on discussions, where both the ruling party and the opposition will put forward their views on the future roadmap of the state.
Summary of last session
The last session of the Assembly was the monsoon session, which was held in August 2025 at the Assembly building in Bharadisain, summer capital Gairsain. This session was scheduled to start from 19th August and continue till 22nd August, i.e. it was a four-day session.
However, the proceedings of the House were disrupted due to a strong uproar by the opposition Congress. Opposition MLAs sought answers from the government on various issues related to public interest, leading to continuous noise and sloganeering. Due to this uproar, the Speaker of the Assembly considered it impossible to proceed with the proceedings and adjourned the session sine die. In this session the government presented the supplementary budget and got some necessary bills passed.
Secretariat action on upcoming session
A copy of the notification signed by Deputy Secretary (Accounts) Hem Chandra Pant on behalf of the Assembly Secretariat has been sent to the Chief Minister, Leader of Opposition, all ministers, all MLAs and senior officials.
