On the basis of excellent batting of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, India won the third ODI against Australia by 9 wickets played at Sydney Cricket Ground. With this the three-match series ended 2-1. Rohit Sharma, who played an inning of 73 runs at Adelaide Oval, has made a great return to form by playing an unbeaten inning of 121 runs in the next match. On the other hand, Virat Kohli, who was out on ‘zero’ in the first two matches of the series, played an unbeaten inning of 74 runs on this ground.
After winning the toss and coming out to bat, the Australian team was reduced to just 236 runs in 46.4 overs. For this team, captain Mitchell Marsh (41) and Travis Head (29) added 61 runs for the first wicket, while Matthew Short was out after scoring 30 runs.
The Australian team had lost 3 wickets by the score of 124. From here Matt Reneshaw along with Alex Carey played an inning of 59 runs in 67 balls for the fourth wicket. Reneshaw was out after scoring 56 runs in 58 balls. His innings included 2 fours, while Carey scored 24 runs in 37 balls. Apart from these, Cooper Connolly contributed 23 runs to the team’s account.
For India, Harshit Rana took 4 wickets for 39 runs, while Washington Sundar achieved 2 successes. In response, the opening pair of Shubhman Gill and Rohit Sharma made a partnership of 69 runs in 10.2 overs. Gill was out after scoring 24 runs in 26 balls with the help of one six and 2 fours.
From here Rohit Sharma along with Virat Kohli took charge. These two batsmen made an unbroken partnership of 168 runs in 169 balls and helped India win in just 38.3 overs. Rohit remained unbeaten after scoring 121 runs in 125 balls. His innings included 3 sixes and 13 fours. Whereas, Kohli scored 74 runs in 81 balls with 7 fours.
Josh Hazlewood was the only successful bowler from the opposition camp, taking one wicket for 23 runs in 6 overs. The Australian team had won the first two matches of the series. Australia won the first match of the series played in Perth by 7 wickets on the basis of Duckworth-Lewis rule, after which it won the second match played in Adelaide by 2 wickets.
