Suryakumar Yadav Fined: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Indian T20 team captain Suryakumar Yadav 30 percent of the match fee. However, this decision of the ICC has been challenged by the BCCI. In the Asia Cup 2025, Suryakumar Yadav dedicated the victory in the group match against Pakistan to the Pahalgam attack victims and the Indian Army. The Indian Army had run ‘Operation Sindoor’, which ended the terrorist structure in Pakistan on a large scale.
The Pakistan Cricket Board described Suryakumar Yadav’s statement as politically motivated and complained to the ICC. However, the Indian captain made this statement keeping in mind the feelings of the fans. The Pakistani team deliberately spread confusion about this. On the other hand, the PCB also lodged a complaint that Suryakumar Yadav violated the spirit of the game by not handing. However, it is not written anywhere in the Rule Book of the ICC that it is necessary to do handshake. But keeping the sportsmanship ahead, the ICC has fined Suryakumar Yadav 30 percent of the match fee.
Pakistani players also got punishment
The ICC had earlier taken action on Pakistani cricketers Haris Rauf and Sahibzada Farhan. Taking a big step, the ICC also fined Haris Rauf 30 percent of the match fees. Sahibzada Farhan has been reprimanded. Haris Rauf made objectionable gestures during the super-four matches. He also clashed with Indian openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill. On the other hand, Farhan wanted to incite Indian players by doing ‘gun celebrations’.
Why Suryakumar complained
On 14 September, India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 group stage match. After this, Suryakumar dedicated that victory to the martyrs of Pahalgam attack. He had said, ‘We are standing with the families of the terrorist incident of Pahalgam. With this step, we express our solidarity. We want to dedicate this victory to all our soldiers and hope that they keep inspiring us in this way. Surya can be punished due to mention of soldiers in this statement. The Pakistani board said in a complaint to the ICC that Suryakumar Yadav’s statement is a violation of the code of conduct to avoid political rhetoric.
