Kohima, January 23 (IANS). An important step has been taken towards strengthening the health services in Nagaland. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOA) has been signed to provide health services through drone technology in the state.
A senior official of the Health and Family Welfare Department said on Friday that this MoA was signed between Nagaland GIS and Remote Sensing Center (NGISRSC) under the Planning and Transformation Department and the Health and Family Welfare Department in Kohima on Thursday. Under this, drone technology will be included in the health care system of the state.
According to the official, this cooperation will help in overcoming the challenges of Nagaland like difficult and hilly terrain, remote areas and limited access. Emergency medical supplies will be delivered through drones, as well as quick response to disease outbreaks and natural disasters.
Drone technology will also be used to provide aerial support in vector control campaigns to prevent mosquito-borne diseases and for better planning and decision making through geospatial mapping.
Under the agreement, NGISRSC will be responsible for drone operations, capacity building, data analysis and compliance with all regulatory provisions, while the Department of Health and Family Welfare will plan for logistics support, coordination and deployment.
Mhathung Kithan, Senior Project Director, NGISRSC, said that it is extremely important to incorporate emerging technologies in the public health system and the adoption of drone technology will significantly improve the efficiency of health services in the hill state.
Meanwhile, Principal Director of Health and Family Welfare Department Mereninla Senlem said that this cooperation will strengthen the preparedness and response capacity of the state during emergencies and disasters. He said that this initiative will play an important role in emergency health campaigns and timely supply of essential medical supplies during disasters.
This MOA is an important milestone in taking Nagaland towards a technology-enabled and robust health system and also represents a model of inter-departmental collaboration in the use of emerging technologies for public welfare.
