New Delhi, February 16 (IANS). Hari Shetty, Chief Strategist and Technology Officer of the country’s leading IT company Wipro Limited, said on Monday that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will bring a big change in the nature of jobs in the coming years, but it is also a big opportunity for growth and employment.
In a special conversation with IANS, Shetty described AI as the biggest technological change of our times.
He compared the current AI wave to historical technological discoveries such as the invention of electricity, the steam engine, and the Internet revolution.
Shetty said that AI is one of the biggest technological opportunities for us. This is a multidimensional technological transformation that will transform industries and economies around the world.
Citing a recent report by the World Economic Forum, he said that AI could create about 17 crore (170 million) new jobs globally, while about 9.2 crore (92 million) jobs could be affected. However, overall there is a possibility of creation of more than 7 crore (70 million) additional jobs, which will have a positive impact.
He agreed that there would definitely be a change in the way of working. Companies and people will have to learn new skills. But he stressed that the future is very promising.
Shetty said that Wipro is preparing its employees for this change. The company has started AI literacy programs on a large scale and all employees are being given AI related training.
He also informed that the company is setting up centers of excellence in AI and data science in collaboration with seven states of the country. Around 60,000 students are benefiting from these programmes.
He said that the future created by AI is not a symbol of fear, but of a world full of opportunities, which we need to embrace.
