New Delhi, May 26 (). The Central Committee (CC) of the CPI(M) has conducted a preliminary review of the political, organizational and ideological reasons behind the recent assembly election results. The party has expressed deep concern over the victory of BJP in West Bengal and the strengthening of Hindutva communal forces in the society.

The release issued after the Central Committee meeting held in New Delhi from May 22 to 24, 2026, said that the State Committee is gathering opinions from various levels to understand the reasons for the electoral setback in Kerala. These suggestions will be discussed in detail in the State Secretariat and State Committee meetings to be held in Thiruvananthapuram between June 5 and 8, which will also be attended by Politburo members. The party said corrective steps would be taken to address the identified weaknesses.

The party said that in West Bengal too, opinions will be taken from all the units and the state committee will finalize the review by the end of June. A similar review process will be followed in Tamil Nadu and Assam also.

CPI(M) described the party’s return to the West Bengal Assembly as positive. Also said that a party supported candidate from Mahe in Puducherry has won as an independent. The Central Committee expressed its gratitude to the voters of all the states who supported the party and its allies.

The party said it will remain in the forefront in raising the issues of the people, fighting to protect their rights and opposing “authoritarian and Hindutva-corporate attacks”. The elected public representatives will also raise public issues in the Houses and continue the struggle against the alleged anti-people policies.

CPI(M) also expressed expectations from the newly formed government in Tamil Nadu. The party said the TVK government, led by Vijay, will rule in accordance with its promises to protect the constitution, federal structure, secularism and democratic rights.

The Central Committee said that a broader trend of the election results is the strengthening of Hindutva communal forces in the society and gaining power in West Bengal. The party said that even though BJP has got limited seats in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, its expansion is a matter of concern.

The CPI(M) said the victory of the RSS-BJP in West Bengal and their return to power in Assam is a matter of grave concern for all secular, progressive and democratic forces. The party assured that it will continue to struggle to protect communal harmony and people’s rights.

The Central Committee of the party will meet again in the second fortnight of July 2026, in which a comprehensive analysis of the election results will be done based on the review reports of the states and steps will be taken to address organizational weaknesses from the top to the grassroots level.
