This year, customers will have to spend more money to recharge their mobile phones. It is believed that after about two years, telecom companies are once again preparing to increase mobile tariffs, which will have a direct impact on the pockets of customers. According to a report, telecom companies may increase mobile tariffs by 15 percent in June this year, which is expected to double the revenue growth of the sector in the financial year 2027.
Revenue of companies is decreasing
There has been a decline in the revenues of telecom companies for the last few months. The revenue of these companies fell by 10 percent in the September quarter, whereas in the last four quarters they were registering revenue growth of 14-16 percent. Now, after increasing recharge plan prices, companies will see an increase in their average revenue per user (ARPU). According to the report, telco margins will now start improving due to increase in recharge plan prices and completion of 5G rollout. Experts say that the phase of investment in 5G infrastructure is over, which reduces the possibility of cost increase for companies.
Companies increased rates of some plans in November
Last November, some telecom companies had increased the prices of some of their recharge plans. Vi increased the price of its ₹1999 annual plan by 12 percent and its 84-day plan by 7 percent. Similarly, Bharti Airtel also increased the price of its cheapest voice-only plan to ₹199 from ₹189. State-owned BSNL also did the same, and instead of increasing the rates, it reduced the validity of its entry-level prepaid plans. Ultimately, this also affected the pockets of the customers.
