New Delhi, November 10 (IANS). Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday held the first pre-budget discussion with top economists of the country for the upcoming Union Budget 2026-27.
The meeting was attended by Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) V. Ananth Nageswaran along with several senior officials from the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) and several economists.
“Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the first pre-Budget discussion with leading economists regarding the upcoming Union Budget 2026-27 in New Delhi today,” the Finance Ministry said on social media platform ‘X’.
The Finance Ministry further said, “The meeting was also attended by the Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) and the Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India, along with senior officials of the DEA.”
As part of pre-budget discussions, the government is continuously holding meetings with industry representatives and other stakeholders to get inputs for the upcoming budget.
These discussions focused on increasing ease of doing business and extending the benefits of tax cuts to the last person.
Last month, officials of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) had met Revenue Secretary Arvind Srivastava.
After the meeting, PHDCCI CEO and General Secretary Dr. Ranjit Mehta said that discussions were held in the meeting regarding indirect taxes and direct taxes. We also discussed about ease of doing business, on which the government is focusing.
He further said that the industry body has given suggestions to the government to overcome the liquidity problem of the medium, small and micro enterprises (MSME) industry and overall the government’s approach towards the suggestions is very positive and it is very good for the industry.
Former President of PHDCCI, Saket Dalmia said that new laws are coming and there is a lot of problem in implementing them till the last mile, which was heard from the government and has received a lot of positive response.
