Seoul, January 9 (IANS). Hyundai Motor Group on Friday said it has started mass production of a new on-device artificial intelligence (AI) chip. This chip helps robots to work automatically without any external internet or network. This allows robots to work faster and safer.
This chip, named Edge Brain, was announced at CES 2026 in Las Vegas on Thursday (local time), Yonhap News Agency reports. The chip is the result of a three-year partnership between Hyundai’s robotics lab and South Korean AI chip maker DeepX.
This chip consumes very little power (less than five watts). Despite this, it gives robots the ability to instantly understand the things around them and take their own decisions. For this there is no need to connect to any cloud or network.
Hyundai Motor said that this new technology is already being used in several projects of the robotics lab. These include a facial recognition system called Facey and a delivery robot, which is currently in the demonstration stage.
This chip will also be used in future in AI security solutions and new generation mobile robots. Hyundai Motor aims to use it through pilot projects in places like airports and hospitals.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor Group chief Euisun Chung met Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during CES 2026. This meeting has increased the hope that both companies can work together on automated driving technology in the future.
According to the report, even before this both of them had met in Seoul in October. Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong was also present in that meeting. This meeting took place when Jensen Huang went to South Korea to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference.
