New Delhi, April 13 (IANS). Kashi Hindu University (BHU), under the Union Education Ministry, has constituted the India-Task Force. The basic objective of the task force is to promote AI based research in health, technology and agriculture.
In this, old traditions and new technologies will be mixed together. Also, an attempt will be made to understand health by combining the rules of Ayurveda and the data of body composition (genome). This will make early detection of cancer, TB and other diseases possible. Work on crop forecasting, weather etc. will also be done through AI.
The formation of the Bharat-Task Force, i.e. BHU Holistic AI-Driven Research for Agriculture, Technology and Health Task Force, will position the university in the field of indigenous, ethical and evidence-based AI solutions. A major responsibility of the task force is the development of unified AI protocols.
The university says that the task force will develop predictive analytics to suit the needs of the Purvanchal region. Under this, AI tools will be prepared for early detection of various diseases including cancer and tuberculosis. Besides, work will also be done on climate-friendly agricultural solutions like crop production forecasting, pest management and environmental monitoring.
BHU Vice Chancellor Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi says that a major objective of the India-Task Force is interdisciplinary capacity building. A new generation of scientist-coordinators will be prepared. This will help in bridging the gap between technological innovation and life sciences. Eminent teachers and experts from various departments of the university have been included in the India-Task Force. These include experts from the Institute of Medical Sciences, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Dental Sciences, Faculty of Ayurveda, School of Biotechnology, Department of Computer Science, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Department of Agronomy, Department of Statistics, Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development and Computer Science departments of IIT (BHU).
In fact, this initiative is in line with the SAHI (Strategy on Artificial Intelligence in Health for India) and BODH (Open Data Platform Benchmarking for Health AI) frameworks of the Government of India. Also, it is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Developed India 2047. Apart from this, it is an important initiative towards establishing India among the top three AI superpowers globally in line with Prime Minister Modi’s vision expressed in his AI Summit.
