New Delhi, November 11 (IANS). According to data released by the International Data Corporation (IDC) on Tuesday, India’s smartphone market has reached a five-year high in the third festive quarter of 2025, registering a growth of 4.3 percent year-on-year to 48 million units.

Tech company Apple has recorded its highest ever quarterly shipments in India by reaching 5 million units in the third quarter of 2025. With this, Apple’s name has been registered at fourth position in the market for the first time.

The iPhone maker has registered a strong growth of 25.6 percent year-on-year due to continued demand for the previous and new models.

iPhone 16 was the most shipped smartphone in India during the quarter, contributing 5 percent to total market shipments.

The newly launched iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air had a record-breaking debut, contributing 16 percent to Apple’s third quarter shipments. This was the company’s strongest launch-quarter performance for any iPhone launch since 2021.

The mid-premium segment grew 10.7 percent year-on-year and its share increased from 3 to 4 percent.

Samsung remained at the top position, followed by Oppo and OnePlus.

Galaxy S24 has contributed almost one-fourth or 25 percent to this range due to heavy discounts on e-tailer platforms.

Upasana Joshi, senior research manager, Devices Research, IDC Asia Pacific, said, “Strong shipment volumes were recorded in Q3 2025 due to aggressive festive promotions and flexible financing options. However, customer demand remained high in the premium segment, which kept the market under pressure and also increased inventory for Q4 2025.”

Joshi further said, “IDC has projected a year-on-year decline for the fourth quarter of 2025, with total smartphone shipments projected to be below 150 million units for the year.”

Due to strong demand and premium and higher-spec models, the average smartphone selling price increased by 13.7 percent year-on-year to a record $294 in the third quarter.
