Millions of prepaid mobile recharge received a setback last month when two big telecom companies of the country, Jio and Airtel shut down their cheap 1GB daily data plans. There was a lot of uproar when the recharge plan of Rs 249 was removed. It was also criticized on the Internet. This was a mobile recharge plan that the common man used to use him unlimited internet and calling for about a month. Now a step has been taken by the government. According to media reports, the Department of Telecommunications has sought a report from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in the matter. TRAI has sought a response from Jio and Airtel on the removal of that recharge plan.

First live, then Airtel removed the plan

TRAI wants to know why the telecom companies did this and what will be the effect on the people. The matter came to light last month. Jio and Airtel have discontinued their popular Rs 249 mobile prepaid plan. In this plan, calling and SMS was available with 1GB of data per day. The validity of Jio’s plan was 28 days and Airtel’s 24 days. First of all, Jio removed the recharge plan from the website, after which Airtel also removed the plan.

Telecom companies’ side

It was said that telecom companies have not expensive the recharge plans and abolished the cheap option and forced people to take expensive recharge plans. According to reports, Jio has told TRAI that her plans can still be purchased physically at Jio stores. At the same time, it has been said on behalf of Airtel that the company has taken this decision in view of the method of using customers.

A media report said that out of Jio’s 50 million wireless subscribers, 20-25 per cent of the customers were using 1GB data plan. Around 18-20% of Airtel’s customers used 1GB daily data plans. At the same time, about 20-25% of the customers of VI use 1GB of data plans. VI’s 1GB daily data plan has not been stopped yet. The reports said that telecom companies are shutting down cheap prepaid recharge to meet the increasing cost of 5G network, but now the matter has come into the limelight after the government has summoned the report.

According to reports, TRAI has also asked telecom companies that which plans their customers are now taking and why they have withdrawn these plans. It is being told that TRAI is keeping an eye on this matter. According to reports, closing cheap recharge may cause problems to people living in rural areas.
