New Delhi, January 26 (IANS). So far, about three crore property cards have been issued in more than 1.84 crore villages under the Swamvitya Scheme, which has reduced land disputes and supported planned rural development. This information was given by the Panchayati Raj Ministry on Monday.

The ministry said that among the 30 tableaux in the 77th Republic Day parade on the line of duty in the national capital, the tableau based on the theme “Svamitva” scheme of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj: Self-reliant Panchayat to Prosperous and Self-reliant India was also included. The tableau emphasized on how legal ownership of rural residential properties empowers citizens and strengthens Panchayats.

About 450 elected representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions and rural local bodies participated as special guests in this parade.

This reflects the emphasis being laid by the Government of India on strengthening democracy and people’s participation at the grassroots level.

The ministry said, the Swamitva scheme has so far helped in issuing about three crore property cards in more than 1 lakh 84 thousand villages. This has reduced land disputes and supported planned rural development.

The Ministry invited citizens to participate in the Mygaon Public Poll for Republic Day tableaux under Informed Citizen Participation.

According to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, these initiatives have strengthened the central role of Panchayats in rural development.

For example, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January presided over the distribution of property cards under the Swamitva scheme, under which legal ownership documents were provided to 65 lakh rural citizens in a single day. The distribution was done in over 50,000 villages across 10 states and 2 Union Territories, taking the total number of property cards distributed under the Swamitva scheme in January to 2.25 crore.
