The story revolves around a Pune-based contractor whose life, while scrolling through social media, suddenly reaches a turning point where everything changes.
One day, she saw a strange advertisement on the Internet: “Looking for a man who can get me pregnant.” Meaning, “I need a man who can get me pregnant, and I will get a reward in return.” An offer that either makes someone laugh or click on it out of curiosity. He chose a different path. At first everything seemed real. A video came on his phone – of a woman. A story of innocence on the face, confidence in the voice and pain in the words. She said that she wanted a child, but society and circumstances did not allow it. Such a web of emotions was woven that the other person stopped doubting.
And this is where the second phase begins—exposing the fraud. After the woman’s message, calls started coming from new numbers. They were told that it was a secret service, called Pregnancy Job or Playboy Service. If she agrees, she will be given Rs 5,00,000 to Rs 2,50,000! Just some formalities had to be completed.
And formalities? That was money. Registration Fee, Membership Fee, Privacy Fee, Medical Examination Fee, Processing Fee. And besides, every time a new excuse was made, and a new amount was demanded. Meanwhile, the same woman’s voice, her words, were echoing in the contractor’s mind: “Just cooperate a little, our system will take care of the rest.” This new “class” of scammers not only extorts money but also exploits a person’s emotions. Within a few days, he transferred around Rs 11 lakh to various accounts. This money was not transferred in one go; Rather, it was gradually collected by building trust. After each payment, she was told, “This is the last step, and the money will be credited to your account.” But the final step never came.
After this, all the numbers were switched off, the links disappeared, and the woman never came online again… only then did she realize she had been scammed. This is not just a “love scam”, it is an organized industry. This is not a small scam, but a cyber gang spread across the country. This “pregnancy job service” which started from Nawada district of Bihar has gradually spread to Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
How do people get trapped?
Strange but attractive advertisements are posted on social media, Facebook groups, WhatsApp and Telegram channels.
A video of the woman is sent, which is actually an AI generated or stolen clip of an unknown girl.
Then, some people contact the victim, posing as an agency, pretending to provide customer service.
PAN, Aadhaar, selfie and even bank details are taken so that the victim feels that everything is official.
Fake documents are given—a child’s birth agreement, a fake signature on a stamp paper, even a celebrity’s fake consent.
And finally—money, money, money… until the victim is broke.
Police officer Chandrashekhar Sawant says that the pattern of such incidents is the same. Victims do not go straight to the police because they fear that people will make fun of them or misunderstand them.
The new generation of scammers—smartphones, scripts and shamelessness
The specialty of these scammers is that they do not use old tricks. There are no fake call center voices or foreign accents. They have high-speed internet, AI-generated videos, QR codes for digital payments, engaging conversations on WhatsApp calls and a deep understanding of the human mind. These fraudsters not only steal money, but also take advantage of humans’ inherent shyness, fear and greed. To avoid such traps, experts say, be wary of any unusual, sensational or private offers on the internet. As soon as you hear words like secret, confidential or private, understand that the game begins from here. Any real work starts with earning money, not with giving money. And most importantly, if a mistake is made, don’t stay silent. Make a complaint.
