New Delhi, February 25 (IANS). Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday termed VIP treatment given to a BSNL director as “inappropriate” and a violation of established rules, saying such conduct is unacceptable and shocking and said a show cause notice has been issued to the officer for the act.

Controversy has arisen after the detailed arrangements made for the proposed visit of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited Director Vivek Bansal to Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh were revealed.

Responding to media questions, Scindia said that this incident is a violation of established rules and traditions.

Scindia told reporters, “Yesterday the media asked me some questions and I have made it clear that this is inappropriate and a violation of established rules and traditions. This is not acceptable to me at all. This is extremely shocking.”

He further said, “Show cause notice has been issued to the director and he has been asked to reply within seven days. We will take appropriate action.”

Scindia further emphasized that any kind of “royal treatment” for officers is unthinkable in today’s era. He made it clear that those found guilty in this case will not be spared.

According to an official order issued by the Deputy General Manager, around 50 staff were deployed over the two days to manage 21 different tasks related to the yatra.

According to reports, minute-by-minute planning included boating, temple darshan, bathing at Triveni Sangam and preparation of bathing kits consisting of towels, oil, comb and even undergarments.

The officers were also assigned tasks like arranging suits, taking photographs, arranging transportation and keeping water bottles, chocolates, chips and other beverages in the vehicles.

Controversy arose after the documents related to this private trip surfaced on social media and people are openly criticizing it. Soon after the controversy surfaced, Bansal’s visit was cancelled.

Let us tell you, government telecom company BSNL had registered a loss of more than Rs 1,300 crore in the last quarter. However, no statement has come out from the company regarding this.
