Taking loan from bank is a very troublesome task. For this you have to verify your eligibility, submit many documents, and even make several trips to the bank. As a result, we often look for easier options—especially when we need a small loan for small expenses. In such situations, we often rely on small apps or micro-loan services that promise to transfer money directly to our account in just one click. It is precisely because of this trust that thousands of rupees were siphoned off from the bank account of a Bengaluru resident.
What is the full story?
In fact, the director of a Bengaluru company recently became the victim of a similar scam. According to a report in *The Times of India*, the incident happened on April 15, when a resident of Banashankari received a text message and a phone call from an unknown number. The message read, “Today is the last day to redeem reward points,” and also included a link that they were asked to click on.
Trusting the message proved costly
The 56-year-old man believed the message and the accompanying call, and clicked on the link. After this, they were asked to pay a fee of ₹34 to get their gifts and reward points. When he made the payment through his credit card, ₹73,889 was deducted from his card shortly after. This seemingly small transaction turned out to be a huge mistake for the person, causing a financial loss of thousands of rupees.
Are you also making these mistakes?
This may seem like a small mistake, but its consequences can be very serious for anyone. Therefore, you should be extremely careful to avoid falling into such traps. Here are some precautions you should take:
* If you receive a call or text message from an unknown number, ignore it.
* Never click on any unknown or suspicious link.
* Be especially careful of links that contain phrases like “Today is the last day to redeem.”
* If any such incident happens to you, immediately report it to the police and cyber crime unit.
