New Delhi, May 3 (IANS). The Indian Space Association on Sunday said the successful launch of Mission Drishti serves as a definitive testament to India’s private space sector reforms. It also signals a major step forward in India’s all-weather monitoring of the Earth from space.

Director General of Industries, Lt Gen AK Bhatt (Retd) said this achievement marks a significant change in India’s approach towards Earth observations from space and underlines the growing maturity of the private space ecosystem.

He said the mission shows that private companies are now able to develop critical technologies used in national security and disaster relief. Successful launch of the first satellite of Galaxy I under Mission Drishti, which is also the largest satellite ever built by an Indian private company. Marks a significant change in India’s approach to Earth observation.

He further said, “This is a conclusive testament to India’s private space sector reforms and signals a move from small-scale testing to sovereign, all-weather surveillance capabilities critical to national security and disaster relief.”

The statement came after Bengaluru-based startup GalaxyEye successfully launched its first commercial satellite, Mission Drishti. This is said to be the world’s first Optosar satellite.

This launch marks a significant advancement in Earth observation technologies and strengthens India’s growing capabilities in the global space arena.

Weighing approximately 190 kg, Mission Drishti is the largest Earth observation satellite developed privately in India.

It is the world’s first satellite to integrate electro-optical (EO) and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensors into a single platform, enabling imaging in all weather conditions, day and night.

Highlighting the technological breakthrough, Bhatt said that with the commercialization of Optosar, Galaxy Eye has achieved a feat that only a few global companies have achieved. Capable of seamlessly integrating optical and radar capabilities to obtain continuous, all-weather information. What is most striking is not just the technology itself, but its broader impact on further value-defining applications in the space economy. “Especially in Earth observations, where timely and decision-making information is extremely important.”
