New Delhi, January 9 (IANS). Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav met the team of Nvidia, the world’s leading chip manufacturer. During this, he discussed developing our own graphics processing unit (GPU) in the country and making edge devices like DGX Spark.

Edge devices are hardware devices, such as sensors, cameras, and routers, that are placed close to where data is generated in the network. These devices process the information on the spot and then send it to the cloud or data center when needed.

Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on social media platform X that these devices being developed in India will be able to work at very high speed. These devices can work safely on large models up to 200 billion parameters and will not require internet.

He told that these small and powerful GPUs will prove to be very useful in railways, shipping, health services, education and remote areas.

Nvidia had already announced to support India’s deep-tech sector by partnering with Indian and US investors. Under this, India Deep Tech Alliance informed about raising new capital of more than $850 million.

The alliance was launched in September with an initial funding of $1 billion, which aims to help startups working in areas such as semiconductors, AI, robotics and space technology.

The Government of India has also announced funding of $12 billion to promote research and development related to advanced technology. Due to this, India is gradually moving from a service-based economy to becoming a center of manufacturing and innovation.

Due to this, deep-tech startups are getting investment easily, which is reducing their long research and concerns regarding profits.

Ashwini Vaishnav also informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with 12 Indian startups ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, which are working on responsible, inclusive and global AI technology.

These startups are developing new technologies in different fields like e-commerce, marketing, engineering, materials research, health and medical research.
