India has held major security discussions with Saudi Arabia while further strengthening its relations with the Gulf countries. Right after the historic defense deal with UAE, Indian officials held a meeting with the Saudi Interior Ministry in Riyadh. In this, it was decided to work together on important issues related to terrorism, radicalism and security. This meeting is considered very important from security point of view for both the countries.

What decisions were taken in the meeting held in Riyadh?
The third meeting of the Security Group of India and Saudi Arabia was held in Riyadh on 28 January 2026. It was attended by Foreign Ministry official Vinod Bahade from the Indian side and Home Ministry official Ahmed Al-Eissa from the Saudi side. Both sides stressed on stopping misuse of technology, spreading radicalization through the internet and terror funding. The meeting also strongly condemned the attacks that took place in Pahalgam in April 2025 and near Delhi’s Red Fort in November 2025.
What is special in the agreement with UAE?
Just before the talks with Saudi Arabia, a major agreement was signed between PM Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed on January 19. Apart from defense partnership, this also includes a $3 billion LNG gas deal. This deal has been signed between UAE company ADNOC Gas and India’s HPCL which will start from 2028. Along with this, both the countries have set a target of taking mutual trade to 200 billion dollars by 2032.

The US delegation has also recently discussed these agreements and described them as necessary for peace in the region. India has made it clear that these defense agreements do not mean getting involved in any local conflict, but are meant to strengthen the security of the country.
