On Friday, there was a major air attack on the Laser and Plasma Research Center of Shaheed Beheshti University located in Tehran, the capital of Iran. According to the report, American and Israeli forces targeted this center due to which the buildings there have been extensively damaged. Iran’s government news agency IRNA has confirmed the attack and said that the attack took place around 4 pm on Friday afternoon, when work was going on at the university campus.

The attack occurred on 3 April 2026 at 4 pm in the Velanjak area of Tehran. The building of the Research Center was directly targeted, causing considerable material damage. According to Iran’s Education Minister, more than 30 Iranian universities have been targeted since the end of February. So far, 5 university professors and more than 60 students have lost their lives in these attacks. Iran’s Red Crescent Society said that this center was purely for scientific and research work.
Reaction of Iran and international community on this
Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian has called the attack a crime against humanity and has appealed to the World Health Organization (WHO) as well as the Red Cross to take action. Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi has warned that continued attacks on nuclear sites threaten to spread radioactive pollution throughout the region. On the other hand, US President Donald Trump has given a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran and demanded opening of the Strait of Hormuz. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has also confirmed to continue attacks on petrochemical plants.
