Trump and his team have made it clear that countries which do not follow Washington’s wishes will also have to face many challenges.
Buoyed by the successful Venezuela operation and a slow international response, the Trump administration is expanding its strategic network, signaling a new and stronger assertion of American power in Latin America and beyond.
The sudden abduction of the President of a sovereign country did not cause the kind of protest or outcry in the world that was expected. The reality is that large-scale opposition and criticism has come from within America itself. Democrats in the US Congress are angry that they were neither consulted nor informed about the Venezuela operation. In theory, Congressional approval is required before the United States enters a war. The leaders of European countries, who opened a front against Russian infiltration in Ukraine, could not muster the courage to even strongly condemn the American action due to fear of Trump’s displeasure. Venezuela’s allies China and Russia both condemned Washington’s military action, but did not pose any threat to the US. Anyway, Moscow or Beijing are not expected to do more than just issue statements. This has strengthened Washington’s confidence that the costs of unilateral action can be managed. After showing the will to take decisive action in Venezuela, the White House has now turned its sights to old enemies and Latin American neighbors. Donald Trump wants to reassert American dominance over the Western Hemisphere and remind America’s rivals that restraint is no longer a tenet of his foreign policy.
Trump and his team have made it clear that countries which do not follow Washington’s wishes may also have to face such challenges. Cuba, Colombia and Mexico are in the White House’s sights and so is Iran.
New preparations: Anti-government protests on the streets in Iran
Regarding Colombia’s Gustavo Petro, Trump recently told reporters, “Colombia is also very sick. It is run by a sick man who loves to make cocaine and sell it to America. Let me tell you, he will not be able to do this much longer.” Does this mean we could see US military operations in Colombia? Trump’s response was, “I like it.”
Cuba, a longtime defender of communism, is in America’s backyard and had faced several American attacks. John F. The Bay of Pigs was a much-discussed incident during Kennedy’s tenure. Then America and the former Soviet Union stood on the brink of nuclear war. But that was averted, so on the instigation of Cuban exiles living in America, successive American Presidents have tried to overthrow the communist government there. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is the son of Cuban immigrants and a staunch anti-communist. It is said that he is the biggest advocate of changing the government in Havana. It is also said that he has a big role in the action against Maduro.
Trump said, “Cuba is alive only because of Venezuela. Now he will not get that money. Cuba is about to collapse. I don’t know how he’ll survive. I don’t think we need to take any action.” Its meaning is not clear, but Washington believes that the communist government there will fall automatically.
Mexico has also angered the US President. “Mexico has to improve its situation, because (drugs) are coming through Mexico and we have to do something. We want Mexico to do it. He is capable of doing this. But unfortunately the cartels are very strong in Mexico. The cartels are running Mexico.
President Claudia Sheinbaum strongly opposed the US military action in Venezuela last week and insisted on her country’s sovereignty. He called President Trump’s threats hollow. “We completely reject interference in the internal affairs of other countries,” Sheinbaum said in a statement after Maduro’s kidnapping. The history of Latin America is clear and strong: American intervention has never brought democracy, prosperity, or lasting stability.” He earlier did not let the country bow to Trump’s tariffs and took control of the situation, but now he is face to face with a more aggressive Washington, which is confident of proving its superiority in its own backyard.Keeps.
Venezuelan President Maduro
The truth is that Latin American countries realize that in the midst of a war, neither Moscow nor China will do more than issue a statement in the United Nations. Anti-American forces in South America cannot look to Europe or even the rest of the world for help.
Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has received a warning. Anti-government protests are continuing in Iran, in such a situation, Trump had warned even before the attack on Venezuela that “If they start killing people like before, America will give a strong blow.” In Israel too, the Benjamin Netanyahu government has started shaking, in such a situation, Netanyahu’s friend Trump may once again be instigated to attack the Iranian leadership.
Greenland is also not far from Trump’s plan. He has been eyeing Greenland since his first term but now the more powerful America can also take military action.
“We need Greenland for a national security situation,” Trump said. He is very strategic. Right now, Greenland is filled with Russian and Chinese ships. We need Greenland from a national security perspective and Denmark will not be able to stop, I can tell you that.”
Along with the leaders of European countries, the British Prime Minister also immediately hit back at Trump’s Greenland comments. The foreign ministers of France and Germany also did the same. Yet neither NATO nor the EU have commented so far. Denmark is a member of NATO.
The easy action in Venezuela has given Trump the courage to take vigorous action against his perceived enemies. It is also said that only success leads to success. This change is shocking for President Trump, who has criticized America’s wars on foreign soil, but is in line with his election promises. Trump’s wild statements against foreign governments were previously considered his boastful habit, but they will now be taken seriously.
