India’s Civil Aviation Regulatory Institution, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has extended the weight lease agreement of two Boeing 777-300 ERs aircraft between Indigo and Turkish Airlines for six months.

This decision has allowed the interglobe Aviation, which operates IndiGo, has been allowed to continue flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Istanbul even after the end of August 31. Now IndiGo can fly with these aircraft to February 28, 2026.

“We have accepted the request to extend the duration of the Wet Lease Agreement with Turkish Airlines of IndiGo,” a spokesman at Gurugram -based airline said, is subject to all regulatory conditions. ” Due to the closure of Pakistan airspiel Indian carriers, IndiGo had requested to extend the duration of its weight lease agreement with Turkish Airlines, as its hybrid-bodies could not fly directly between Delhi and Istanbul.

The Indigo spokesman said, “Considering the current geopolitical challenges, it provides continuity and stability in expansion operations, allowing us to better fulfill the increasing demand for international travel.” He added, “This approval has come at an important time and will help reduce the loss of Indian aviation due to geopolitical sanctions, as well as the passengers will benefit in ensuring direct connections for Istanbul and beyond in the peak season. We thank the authorities that they have accepted our expansion request. Always, we will be fully followed.” The relations between India and Türkiye became tense after the India-Pakistan struggle in May.

Clearly stated, IndiGo was given a three-month “final and last” expansion for these damp-leased aircraft in May, with the condition that the airline would end the damp lease with the Turkish Airlines within this period. Indigo currently operates two direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Istanbul. Both these flights use Turkish Airlines’ Damp-Lied Boeing 777 aircraft.

IndiGo’s CEO Peter Albers stated in May that “many Indian customers” are booked on airline flights to Istanbul, which acts as a base under Indigo’s Kodeshare Agreement for passengers traveling in other parts. He had said, “Our Turkish is Kodasare with airlines, where we fly to a certain point and the customer travels with another carrier ahead of that.”
