Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Jassim Mohammed Albudaiwi has given a big statement on Saturday. He said that Iran has crossed all red lines by carrying out direct military attacks on Gulf countries. For the last few days, continuous drone and missile attacks have been taking place in countries like Saudi Arabia and UAE. Due to this increasing tension, concerns about the safety of millions of expatriates and local citizens living in Gulf countries have increased. The armies of the Gulf countries are now on full high alert.
🚨: Kuwait Attack: 6 people died and 141 injured due to Iranian attack in Kuwait, alert issued for foreign citizens.
Recent attacks on Saudi and UAE
Following the instructions of Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, attacks on Gulf countries have intensified. According to official reports, Saudi Arabia shot down 51 drones on March 13 and 14. These drones were sent targeting important areas like Riyadh and Eastern Province. The UAE Defense Ministry also destroyed 7 ballistic missiles and 27 drones on March 13.
These attacks are directly impacting the common people. Many civilians have been harmed by falling missile debris. It is reported that since February 28, 6 people have died in UAE and more than 140 people are injured. Attacks are now targeting residential areas and water treatment plants.
What is the stance of GCC and UN?
After these attacks, GCC has welcomed United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2817. In this resolution, 136 countries have condemned Iranian military operations. The GCC Secretariat has clearly stated that under Article 51 of the UN Charter, member states have the full legal right to defend themselves. They can take every necessary step for their sovereignty and security.
In view of the current situation, the armed forces of all GCC countries have been kept in a state of maximum readiness. Apart from this, concern has also been expressed regarding the safety of ships at sea. Operations in the Strait of Hormuz are limited due to Iranian threats. Even at the diplomatic level, talks are almost closed and many Gulf countries have recalled their ambassadors from Tehran.
