US President Donald Trump reiterated his claim that “peace has been made” between India and Pakistan in May when he threatened both the nuclear armed countries that he would cancel trade deals with them if they continued their military conflict.
Trump has repeated this claim several times since the military conflict between India and Pakistan stopped.
“In eight months, I ended eight long-running wars, including those in Kosovo and Serbia and Congo and Rwanda… even between Pakistan and India,” Trump said in his address at the ‘America Business Forum’ in Miami.
He said, “You know I was negotiating a trade deal with both of them (India and Pakistan) and then I read on the front page of a newspaper… I heard that they were going to war. Seven aircraft were shot down and the eighth aircraft was badly damaged… a total of eight aircraft were shot down.”
The US President said, “I said, this is war and they are moving forward in it.” They are two nuclear armed nations. I said, ‘I will not make any trade deal with you unless you agree to peace.’
“Both countries said, ‘Absolutely not,'” he said. It has nothing to do with business…’ I said, ‘It has everything to do with everything.’ You are nuclear powered. I will not do business with you. If you fight with each other, we will not make any compromise with you.
“A day later, I got a call saying, ‘We’ve made peace,'” Trump said amid thunderous applause. they stopped. I said, ‘Thank you.’ Let’s do business.’ Isn’t it great? “It happened because of tariffs…Without tariffs, this would never have happened.”
Trump had announced on social media on May 10 that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “complete and immediate ceasefire” after “late night” talks brokered by Washington. Since then he has repeated this claim more than 60 times.
However, India has always denied any third party mediation.
In his speech in Miami, Trump also said he helped resolve conflicts between Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, Armenia and Azerbaijan and Cambodia and Thailand.
He also mentioned the economic agreements recently signed with China, Japan and Malaysia. “These are all fantastic economic deals that are a win-win for everyone,” he said.
