A big announcement has been made during the World Governments Summit held in Dubai. Mumbai resident Rubel Nagi has been given the Global Teacher Prize for 2026. The amount of this award is 10 lakh dollars i.e. about Rs 8 crore. Rubel Nagi was given this honor by Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum and Sunny Varkey, founder of Varkey Foundation. This award is given to those who do excellent work in the field of education and is considered very prestigious across the world.

How a pencil changed life
Rubel Nagi tells that her journey started 26 years ago. At that time she was in an art workshop and there she met a child who had never seen a pencil. That incident shook him to the core. After this she decided that she would help such children who do not have the necessary resources for education. He started an initiative named Misaal India through which education is provided to children living in slums. His team has converted the walls of slums into ‘Living Walls of Learning’ where children are taught subjects like science and mathematics on the walls themselves.
What will happen to the reward money?
After this big honour, Rubel Nagi has said that she will use this money for the welfare of the society. She has announced that she will open a free vocational training institute. In this institute, poor youth will be taught such skills so that they can easily get jobs and stand on their own feet. At present, his organization has opened more than 800 learning centers across India and has helped more than 10 lakh children so far.
Strict rules for Global Teacher Prize
The award is presented by Varkey Foundation in collaboration with UNESCO and Dubai Cares. A teacher selected for this award is required to teach children for at least 10 hours a week. Apart from this, they also have to promise that they will remain in the teaching profession for the next 5 years. The application process is also very strict and applications written with Artificial Intelligence i.e. AI are immediately rejected.
