The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued a very important message for its citizens and expatriates living there. The government has said in clear words that people should not panic and hoard ration at home and should purchase only as per their needs. This statement has come at a time when the month of Ramadan is near and there is some concern among the people about the situation going on in the area.

Prices of 9 food items will not increase

UAE Economy Minister Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri has assured the public that there is no shortage of food items in the country. He said that the government has kept sufficient stock of grains and essential commodities for the next 4 to 6 months, so there is nothing to fear.

To keep the prices in the market under control, the administration has imposed a strict ban on increasing the prices of 9 essential commodities. These items include cooking oil, eggs, milk products, rice, sugar, chicken (poultry), pulses, bread and wheat. The government has warned that if any shopkeeper breaks these rules or asks for more money than the fixed price, he will be imposed with a heavy fine ranging from 500 dirhams to 1,00,000 dirhams.

Latest updates on flights and petrol prices

The stock markets of Dubai and Abu Dhabi have reopened from today after being closed for two days, although some new rules have been imposed to prevent the fall. At the same time, regarding air travel, Emirates airline has said that their flights will remain closed till 7th or 8th March. The UAE government is bearing the entire expenses of accommodation and food for the passengers who are stranded at the airport.

Apart from this, new prices of petrol and diesel are also applicable for the month of March. Now Super 98 petrol will be available at 2.59 dirham, Special 95 petrol at 2.48 dirham and diesel at 2.72 dirham per liter. The government has appealed to the people that if they find any complaint of hoarding or overcharging, they should immediately inform the Consumer Protection Department.
