Melbourne, 7 October (IANS). According to a global study conducted by Australia, about one million deaths due to scorching heat in 2023 are associated with human-related climate change.

The study released on Tuesday found that in 2023, about 1,78,486 people died due to scorching heat worldwide. About 54 percent of these deaths, ie about 97,000 deaths are due to human-borne climate change.

The study has been conducted under the leadership of Mamash University in Australia, analyzing temperature and death data from 67 countries and 2,013 places.

The study showed that the year 2023 was the hottest year ever, which was 1.45 ° C higher than the pre-industrial level. This temperature rise extended both the intensity and duration of the heatwave, especially the deaths of people suffering from heart and respiratory diseases in areas with subtropical and medium climate of the northern hemisphere.

In southern Europe, the death of 120 people per million was recorded due to summer waves, the highest compared to other parts of the world. After this, high death rates were also seen in Eastern and Western Europe. Experts say that the ever -increasing heat in these areas had a profound impact on the health of the people, especially the elderly and the already ill people.

This study suggests that if climate change from human activities is not controlled, then similar heatwaves can be seen in future. Researchers have warned that in such a situation it is necessary that governments and community make appropriate preparations for health and take effective steps to prevent climate crisis.

Recently, the Australian government released its first national climate risk report on 15 September. It was reported that if the global warming goes above 3 ° C, more than 1.5 million houses in Australia will be in danger of rising water level by 2050. By 2090, this number will be more than 30 lakhs. Apart from this, the report also states that due to this temperature increase, deaths due to heat will be more than doubled.

Climate change, ie long -term changes in temperature and weather patterns, can also occur due to natural causes, such as changes in sun activity or large volcanic explosion. But since 1800, humans’ activities, especially fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas, have become the main cause of climate change.

Burning of fossil fuels emit gases such as carbon dioxide and methane, which emit greenhouse gases, which increase the temperature of the Earth. This causes global warming. Many areas such as agriculture, industry, transport, building construction and land use are the major sources of these gases.

Summer waves are not only dangerous for human health, but they also affect crops and water sources. This can create crisis on food security and make it difficult to live. Therefore, experts believe that it is very important to take immediate steps to prevent climate change.
