Srinagar . The Indian National Congress has decided to leave the Nagrota assembly seat for its ally National Conference to defeat the BJP. Chief spokesperson of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Ravinder Sharma gave this information.

He said that this decision has been taken after detailed deliberations on the JKPCC report and keeping in mind various factors. Ravinder Sharma said that the facts considered by the party include the alliance of both the parties in the previous assembly elections of 2024 and the second position secured by the National Conference in the final election results of the said constituency.
He said that keeping in mind the broader norms and principles of the alliance, the central leadership of the Congress has decided to leave the Nagrota seat for its ally National Conference in the by-election.
Let us tell you that out of total 90 seats of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, currently two – Budgam and Nagrota are vacant. One of these seats has been vacated by the MLA who had won the elections from two assembly constituencies, while the other seat had become vacant after the death of Nagrota BJP MLA Devendra Singh Rana. Voting for by-elections on both the seats will be held on November 11.
Ravinder Sharma said that National Conference had stood second in Nagrota in the 2024 elections. Keeping this in mind and to achieve the broader goal of defeating BJP, its ally National Conference has decided to contest elections from this seat.
Apart from this, elections for four Rajya Sabha seats are to be held on October 24. JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma has rejected the talk of differences with the National Conference regarding seat sharing in the Rajya Sabha elections.
Election results were declared in Jammu and Kashmir in October last year, in which Jammu and Kashmir National Conference got 42 seats, BJP 29 seats, Congress six and PDP three seats. Later, National Conference and Congress formed a coalition government.
