The new Tata Sierra will be available for sale in petrol-diesel as well as electric versions in the coming months.
Tata Motors’ new Sierra has been spotted testing several times and now its production version has been spotted again, this time almost without a cover. For the first time, a glimpse of this upcoming mid-size SUV has been clearly seen. Recently one of its units has been seen in yellow color on a flat-bed truck. This is the same color which was much talked about at the Auto Expo earlier this year.
Tata will offer both IC-engine and electric versions of the new Sierra, with the electric version expected to arrive first. Its petrol-diesel version will be launched soon after this. Although Tata has kept the launch timeline under wraps, speculations are rife that the midsize SUV will reach showrooms in the next three to four months.
The long awaited petrol versions of Harrier and Safari are also going to be launched soon. Instead of making major design differences based on powertrain (engine), Tata Motors is working on a uniform look for the entire Sierra range. That means the exterior design of both ICE (petrol/diesel) and EV (electric) versions will be almost the same. However, some styling changes will be seen.

At the front, this SUV will have a closed grill panel, sharp-lined bonnet and LED headlamps connected to the light strip spanning the entire width, which will give it a powerful look. Its muscular bumper and raised body design give it a stylish look like a modern SUV. At the rear too, the upcoming Tata Sierra will retain its signature boxy design theme.
The design features a thin LED light bar that spans the entire width of the tailgate. An integrated roof spoiler, shark-fin antenna, high-mounted stop lamp and square tailgate are its other highlights. Engine-powered, the Tata Sierra is expected to be powered by the brand’s new 1.5-litre turbocharged, four-cylinder petrol engine.
It produces 168 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque. Along with this, Tata will also continue with the 2.0-litre diesel engine, which can produce around 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. Transmission options are expected to include a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic. Two battery packs will be used in this electric car and its driving range is said to be more than 500 km.
