Increasing road accidents in Bihar have now become a matter of serious concern for the government. Six districts of Bihar, including the capital Patna, are included in the list of 100 districts in the country where road accidents occur the most. After this shocking figure came to light, the Central Government and Bihar Government together have decided to start a big and comprehensive operation regarding road safety.

According to government data, every year a large number of people lose their lives or get seriously injured in road accidents in these districts. Constantly increasing traffic pressure, ignoring rules and disorganized traffic are being considered as the major reasons for accidents in the capital Patna. Apart from this, speeding, overloading and ignoring the rules of helmet-seat belt on national and state highways are also giving rise to accidents in other five districts.

What will the government do now?
The central and state governments will jointly run a special road safety operation in these accident-prone districts. Under this, first of all the black spots of accidents will be identified. Where accidents occur frequently, road infrastructure, sign boards, lighting and traffic signals will be improved.

Along with this, a special campaign will be launched for strict adherence to traffic rules. Strict action will be taken against overspeeding, drunk driving, driving without helmet and seat belt. There are also plans to install speed cameras, red light violation detection system and CCTV cameras in these districts.

Role of police and administration
The role of traffic police will be important in this operation. Police personnel will be given special training so that they can enforce road safety rules effectively. Apart from this, ambulance and trauma care facilities will also be strengthened, so that timely treatment can be provided after the accident and lives can be saved.

Emphasis on public awareness also
The government believes that accidents can be reduced not only by strict action but also by spreading awareness among the people. For this, campaigns regarding road safety will be run in schools, colleges and public places. People will be told about the importance of helmet, seat belt and traffic rules.
