Shiv Sena (UBT) on Saturday took a tough stance in its first reaction after the results of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, indicating that the political fight in Maharashtra is not over yet and will continue until the Marathi community gets the respect they deserve.

In a post shared on social media platform X, Shiv Sena (UBT) said, “This fight is not over yet. It will continue until the Marathi man gets the respect he deserves.”

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) alliance emerged as the largest alliance in the BMC elections, while the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) alliance also secured a significant share of seats and votes across Mumbai.

According to official data released by the Election Commission and BMC, the BJP won 89 seats and received 11,79,273 votes, which is 21.58 per cent of the total votes polled.

BJP’s vote share among the winning candidates was 45.22 percent, making it the largest party in the Municipal Corporation. Its ally Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) won 29 seats and polled 2,73,326 votes, which is 5.00 per cent of the total vote share. The BJP-Shiv Sena (Shinde) alliance emerged as the largest faction in the BMC.

On the other hand, Shiv Sena (UBT), contesting the elections in alliance with MNS, won 65 seats. UBT-led Shiv Sena got 7,17,736 votes, which is 13.13 percent of the total votes polled. MNS added 6 seats to the alliance with 74,946 votes and its vote share was 1.37 percent.

The Indian National Congress (INC) won 24 seats and received 2,42,646 votes, which is 4.44 percent of the total vote share.

Among other parties, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) won 8 seats with 68,072 votes, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won 3 seats, Samajwadi Party won 2 seats and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) won 1 seat.

Overall, the winning candidates of recognized political parties received 26,07,612 votes, which is 47.72 per cent of the total votes polled. A total of 54,64,412 votes were cast in the election, while 11,677 voters voted in opposition.

While Uddhav and Raj Thackeray tried to consolidate votes on the issue of revival of Marathi language and Marathi Manush identity, the saffron alliance’s development works, including Metro Aqua Line and coastal road, helped them gain an edge in the BMC elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the BJP-Shiv Sena-led victory in the Maharashtra municipal corporation elections, calling it the result of “people-friendly good governance”. Expressing his gratitude to the voters, PM Modi said that the development vision of NDA has won the hearts of the people of the state.

Addressing BJP workers at the party office in Mumbai, Devendra Fadnavis said, “BJP and Mahayuti will form their respective 25 mayors after these elections.”
