Chandigarh The first Kumaon Cup 35 Plus age group tennis ball cricket competition organized by Kumaon Sabha, Chandigarh at Punjab University Chandigarh Sports Ground was successfully organized. A total of 16 teams participated in the tournament. On the occasion of the inauguration of the tournament, Homi Bhabha Tata Cancer Institute, Director of New Chandigarh – Admin Madho Singh, Lieutenant Commander Manish Dimri (Retired) and Major Deepika (Retired) reached and encouraged the players. All the matches of the tournament played on the knock out basis. A total of four teams reached the semi -finals. In the final match, the UK stores team won the toss and decided to field first. The final match was quite thrilling. Batting first, Kumaon Sabha, Chandigarh’s team scored 50 runs at the loss of 6 wickets. In which Manjeet scored 26 off 17 balls with the help of one six and two fours. The UK stores team, chasing a target of 51 runs for the victory, won the 7th over at the loss of 7 wickets. Himmat Mehra scored 33 runs in 22 balls with the help of three sixes and a four. Prakash Phulara was the best bowler who took 4 wickets for 8 runs. Himmat Mehra Hi Man of the Match and Man of the Series were the series. In the tournament, senior, constables, lifetime members, officials of various institutions of Uttarakhand and a large number of dignitaries from Tricity came to see the match. The meeting of Kumaon, cherished his culture by the meeting, provided the memory symbol of Kumaon to all teams and guests. The winning team received 21000 and 11000 prize money as prizes. Manoj Rawat and General Secretary Deepak Parihar thanked all the guests, all the team players, their executive and area committees for their full support in making this event a success.
