Amidst the increasing tension in West Asia, the Indian government has given a big update. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday that since February 28, about 1,30,000 Indian citizens have returned to India safely. In view of the deteriorating security situation in this area, the government is continuously helping in evacuation and evacuating people safely.
How is the return of Indians going on?
The government is making every possible effort to rescue Indians stranded in Iran and surrounding countries. In countries where direct commercial flights have been stopped, people are also being made to cross the border by road so that they can take flights from other countries.
About 170 Indians have reached Armenia by road from Iran, from where they are returning to the country by flight. Of the total returnees, about 60 percent have used Indian Airlines. There were initially about 9,000 Indians in Iran, including many students, sailors and pilgrims. A special control room has been set up in Delhi to help people and a 24-hour helpline is operational in all embassies.
Important guidelines for people living in Gulf
The Ministry of External Affairs has given important rules for Indians working in or traveling to Gulf and West Asia. The government has clearly said that unless absolutely necessary, avoid traveling to this area and especially to Iran. The Indian citizens who are currently present there have been asked to register at their respective embassies without any delay.
About one crore Indians work in Gulf countries and their security is the biggest priority of the government. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has also told in the Parliament that the government is keeping an eye on every situation and the Indian Embassy is fully active to deal with any emergency.
