New Delhi, April 18 (IANS). A central government team is likely to soon launch a probe into the horrific accident at the Vedanta Power Plant in Dabhra tehsil of Sakti district in Chhattisgarh, in which several workers died while several others were seriously injured. This team includes officials from Industrial Safety Department and Boiler Inspector Department.
According to an NDTV report, this team will reach Sakti from Delhi on Saturday and investigate the accident. This step has been taken after the report of the state boiler inspector, on the basis of which the decision to investigate at the central level was taken.
Here, Chhattisgarh government has also ordered a separate investigation into this accident. For this, the Commissioner of Bilaspur Division has been appointed the investigating officer.
This accident took place on April 14 in Boiler Unit-1 of the plant. According to initial information, the explosion occurred due to a technical fault in the joint of the water supply pipe connected to the steam pipeline. So far 20 laborers have died in this accident, while 15 others are seriously injured and are undergoing treatment in different hospitals.
Considering the seriousness of this incident, the state government has directed the investigation to find out when and how the accident happened, what were the reasons behind it and what steps can be taken to prevent such incidents in future.
According to the order, the investigating officer will have to submit his report to the government within 30 days.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has expressed deep grief over this incident and described it as extremely sad and painful. He paid tribute to the deceased and expressed condolences to their families. Also, the officials have been instructed to complete the investigation impartially and expeditiously and take strict action against the culprits.
In the preliminary technical report, the Chief Boiler Inspector stated that excessive fuel accumulation inside the furnace increased the pressure, which damaged the pipeline and caused the explosion. Sakti’s Forensic Science Lab (FSL) has also confirmed this finding and termed fuel overload as the main reason for the accident.
