Like Nepal, now the youth of Latin American country Peru have also come out on the streets. The protesters of Generation Z in Peru are raising their voice against the government. There have been violent clashes between thousands of generation Z protesters and police. Peru’s police have to use heavy force. Both protests have many similarities. Jane ji’s banner, social media posts, memes and way of opposing are almost the same! While the ban on social media in Nepal had smoldered a spark, Peru had been burning inside for the last few days due to a government decree. There was a similar atmosphere against President Dina Boluarte as Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Nepal.
Hundreds of youth took to the streets on September 20, 2025 in Peru’s capital Lima. This demonstration was organized mainly by the youth of Jane Ji i.e. new generations. The main objective of the youth was to raise their voice against ‘Corruption, Economic Inspection and Pension Reforms Act’. This protest organized by a youth group named ‘Generation ji’ is part of the protests, organized crime in Peru, corruption in government positions and increasing social dissatisfaction against recent pension reforms. About 500 people gathered at the city center in the presence of heavy police force. What is the reason for this protest?
Why are the youth angry in Peru?
In fact, recently the Congress of Peru has made changes in private pension funds, which fears the youth that their future savings will be unsafe. At the same time, rising crime rate and government corruption have increased the restlessness among the youth. The protesters expressed their pain and anger with the help of social media platforms and gathered at one place. In view of the increasing dissatisfaction, the police took the front. Tear gas was used to disperse the crowd and about three policemen were injured in a violent clash. According to the radio station Exitosa, his reporter and a cameraman were allegedly injured by bullets fired by law enforcement agencies.
This month also in Nepal, Jenji’s youth became active in the same way and staged a large -scale protests against the government and Parliament. Due to these protests led by youth in Nepal, the Prime Minister had to resign and even had to appoint an interim Prime Minister. Young protesters in both countries used symbols of social media, mimes and pop culture. For example, some protesters in Peru wearing the ‘One Peace’ anime symbol like a flag. Even in Nepal, the youth continued to raise anti -government slogans through digital activism. He said that Jane wants to be ‘not just a voter in politics, but an active partner’.
Perual President’s popularity declines drastically
This trend is also being seen globally. Like Bangladesh, in Indonesia and Kenya, youth are protesting using digital platforms similarly. In the last few months, there has been a significant decline in the popularity of President Dina Bolarte in Peru. Boluarte’s term ends next year, but the graph of his popularity has fallen significantly. The reason for this is being said to increase criminal activities and failure to tighten the corrupt. The government conducted several referendum surveys, which concluded that many people consider the Peru government and the Congress with conservative majority to be corrupt. Recently, he also doubled his salary and was also criticized a lot.
